The name Praia da Baleia means 'Beach of the Whale', a reference to a whale which washed into the shore (and died) several years ago.

An exotic place, where nature is still primitive and the landscapes are untouched by man. This is Baleia Beach, 172 km from Fortaleza, access by highways CE-085 and CE-168. With a wide extension of sand, this place is excellent for a relaxing walk, while the coming and going of jangada boats and fishermen can be seen.

Tourists can enjoy the landscapes on top of cascudos, fixed dunes which are great sightseeing spots to check on the natural beauties of the place. Baleia Beach is the ideal place to practice water sports. Tourists can stay in simple and comfortable inns. Handcraft's main item is bobby lace. Near Baleia Beach, there is another beach called Icaraí de Amontada. Mundaú Beach is another excellent option, only 90 km from Baleia Beach.
